G1 round 3
A little late, but better late than never! Here are some of the photos i took at this years round 3 of the South Australian G1 drift series.
Nissan Datsun car club of SA hillclimb
A few weeks ago I attended the Nissan Datsun car club of South Australia’s private hill climb day. There were plenty of old school Datsuns there on the day including a rare 510 bluebird that was running a rover V8 and painted in the BRE paint scheme. There was also an orange painted SSS 1600 bluebird racing up the hill! Among the mixture of Datsun and Nissan’s were a bunch a Mazda mx5, a few old Europeans, a new Toyota 86, and a very quick F1 looking racecar! The day was organised very well and through out the day, drivers were allowed to take passengers for rides up the hill. If you have never been to Collingrove hill climb, I highly recommend it as it’s a great track for both drivers and spectators alike. Thank you to the NDCC of Sa for running a great event and letting me attend to shoot the whole day.
Enjoy the photos!

Drift Supercup 2012
Theres not much to say about this event except WOW! Great day, great cars, great people and drift! If you havent been to DSC before, make sure you get their next year. Thanks to Mallala Raceway for putting on a good event.
Congratulations to Jarred Klingberg for taking out first place!
Enjoy the photos.
The Vic crew! Make sure you check out the work from Joey at Jacked it, and Matty from Stylised Productions as both these guys do awesome work.
Your winner for the day, Jarred Klingberg killing it! Congratulations buddy.
Luke Broadbent had a few unfriendly encounters with the tyre stacks through the day, but managed to get the car back together thanks to his crew and continued on to win the drift snake challenge.
Drift School Part 3
OK guys, here is the last batch of photos from Drift School 2012 at Mallala Raceway. I don’t have much to say of the subject this time except enjoy!
Stay tuned as ill be at Drift Super cup this weekend, so ill have plenty more photos to share!
Drift School Part 2
Here is the second batch of photos from this years Drift School at Mallala Raceway.
Enjoy!
2012 Mallala Drift School
On the 29th of May, Mallala Raceway put on this years Drift School. The Day was a great opportunity for upcoming drivers to learn new skills and meet some experienced guys at the same time! Some of the best and most experienced drivers SA has to offer were there to instruct the beginners such as Wayne Nunn, Phil Branson, Stuart Furze, Eddie Modra, Jarrad Klingberg, Davey Clarke, Ian Roddey, and Australia’s first D1GP driver Jake Jones! If you attended the day and were on track, you were in for a treat!
So the day started off with everyone being divided into different experience levels and then put into the appropriate groups. Then once everyone’s cars were up and running, the groups all headed out to different parts of the track where they started to learn their new skills. The beginners were on the skid pan learning how to do controlled donuts and figure eights, why the intermediate and experienced groups were on the main track hitting up the 2 hairpins and the “S”.
About midday there was a lunch break where drivers had the opportunity to check out other people’s rides, ask questions to instructors, or just hang out and check out all the new gear that was on offer at the “SLEEKA SPARES” garage. Once everyone finished eating, they were given the opportunity to move up to different groups if they felt up to it.
At the end of the day their was an open drift practise for all drivers to try there newly developed skills on most of the track. This was also an opportunity for the instructors to get out on track for a bit of fun after spending the entire day watching everyone else get to. There were some awesome tandems going on during the practise session and even some new guys getting some big angle on turn 1. One highlight of the day was seeing Stuart Furze get his Holden Maloo ute on track and melting some tyres!
After all tyres were melted and all clutches fried, everyone packed up and talked about the great day theat was just had. If you’re a new driver interested at getting into the drift world, I highly recommend attending next years drift school as it was a great day and a lot of fun to just shoot even!
Stay tuned for part 2! Enjoy the photos.
Awsome Datsun 1600 at Easter Historics 2012!!!
I attended the 2012 Easter historic this easter long weekend at Mallala Raceway, and why I was there, I stumbled upon this awesome looking track 1600.
I sure hope “Dougie” knows he has one sweet looking datto here!
Stay tuned for photos of all the racing action on the track.
Last Weekends Drift Practise!!!
Last weekend at Mallala Raceway I attended drift prac! Here are the pictures. They can do more talking than I can
Enjoy!
Cars of Stadium Drift Pits
So at the end of my day I like to take a walk around the pits and shoot the amazing cars that are out on the track all day. These were some of the best throughout the day.
Stadium Drift 2012 Rd 1
So Saturday at Tailem Bend was round 1 of the South Australian Stadium Drift series. Although I arrived late, what I did end up seeing was some pretty wicked drifting. The track was fairly small and battles didn’t last very long, but the drivers still went hard until the last run of the day. A few sponsored drivers showed up, but most were fairly new guys so the battles were pretty even. Hopefully round 2 will be just as good.
Enjoy!
It took about 5sec for this guy to slap a smashedlense sticker on his car. Cheers buddy!
Cars of Pit Lane of rd 1 comming up next!
All Japan Day part 3
So here are the remainder of my photos I have for you guys. The day was a great day and im looking forward to next years!
Enjoy!
Stay tuned as I will be attending this weekends rd 1 stadium drift. If you see me, ask for a sticker!
Seths s13 silvia
Hopefully I will have a full feature on this car in the near future. Untill than, enjoy this preview!
1961 Austin Healey Sprite
I did a photo shoot of a 1961 Austin Healey Sprite a while back and have been really busy with other things that I forgot to edit the photos! Sorry Hamish for taking so long :) If your only into Japanese cars, you probably wont be interested, but take a look anyways. See what you think! Its a pretty clean little car.
All Japan Day 2012 part1
So last weekend was the 2012 “All Japan Day” car meet. I have attended AJD for the last three years and every time it gets better and better. I’m not going to say much and let the photos do all the talking.

Stay tuned for part 2!
One Sick Sil80!
So I had a photo shoot with an old friend of mine, and his awesome Nissan sil80 drift car the other day. Chris’ car is currently still a “build in progress”, but when its finished it’s going to be a beast. Trust me! what makes this build so awesome is the new power plant. A 2JZ fitted to a shorten rb25 gearbox. Thats right. A 2jz!
In the engine bay we have a gt3582 turbo with a TIAL 38mm external wastegate, super now solid engine mounts, HKS oil cooler, sard radiator, k&n oil catch can, generic intercooler, as well as OEM parts sourced from other Nissan vehicles.
In the suspension department we have a wide variety of aftermarket parts such as JIC coilovers, ikeya formula rack ends, KTS tie rod ends, kazama caster rods, power by max solid sub frame bushes, and s14 lower control arms. Braking is being taken care of with project mu disks, s14 four pot front calipers, with all brakes being fitted with braided lines.
On the inside we have most of the interior still being ripped out with a single bride fixed back racing seat being fitted to hold Chris in place when he’s holding the car sideways through all those turns at Mallala. Accompanying this is a full Cusco 8 point roll cage, works bell steering wheel, blitz boost controller, relocated battery to the now missing back seat, as well as the much-needed apexi gauges to make sure nothing happens to the new power plant.
The body at this point is pretty standard except for a pair of Origin carbon fiber rear wings.
In the Tyre department, Chris has a variety of different rims which he will be using which are 17×9 +11, 17×9.5 +15 and 17×8 +8. All rims will be wrapped in 215/45r17 tyres.
Chris is looking to have the car finished in time to attend Drift school at Mallala in April, so if you go, make sure you say hi to him and check out his ride. Make sure you also watch for Chris at future drift practises and hopefully some drift events in the near future.
Chris would also like to thank metalwork for the help they have provided and all his mates for the advice, beers, and general help on the car.
Enjoy!
Few photos from the Ben Simpson Memorial cruise
So I didn’t shoot too many photos on the day as I actually drove in the cruise. Because of that I havent got to much to say besides that it was a great cruise and a great cause. Thank you to “the olds” for organising it. The following photos are just a few of the awesome rides that were there. Hopefully I will have a few more to come.
Enjoy!
10/10 Summer Matsuri Part 2
Here is part two of the 10/10 summer matsuri at Mallala. The photos will also include engine bays and cars in the pit area. Have a look and let me know what you think.
Enjoy!
This petrol flap says what a lot of us are probably thinking!
That basically wraps up the best of my matsuri photos. I will probably put up random stuff here or there so stick around and stay updated by subscribing to my blog.
Make sure you also follow smashedlense on instagram, now on your iPhone!
Summer 10/10 Matsuri part 1
So last weekend was the first Matsuri for the year and was also the first matsuri i have ever been to. With nearly 200 cars entered and well over 1000 spectators, it was a great day and extremely fun to shoot. besides the main track, Mallala also had the skid pan in full swing. I have never seen the skid pan in use before so I was very excited to see what was on offer. No major crashes happened on the day but plenty of tyres were destroyed. So below are the first part of the hundreds upon hundreds of photos I took on the day.
enjoy!
If your going to put it into the tyres, do it in style.
Going hard and destroying rubber the way it should be done!
This guy looked like he was loving life!
This 180sx sure loved destroying tyres. That was the second rear tyre I seen popped on the back-end!
JAF Cruise 26/12/2011
Well it was that time of year for the annual JAF cruise and if I might say “what a F-ing cruise!”. With well over 500 cars in attendance it was by far the biggest cruise I have ever been on. With all the photos I had taken, these are a few of the snaps I got on the day.
enjoy!
FUCHS 1/8 mile drags…..IN ADELAIDE!!!!
So the drags are back in Adelaide after 10 years. The day started at 8am and went well into the night until around 11:30pm. The day involved many classes of cars with over 200 competing with over 20,000 people in attendance to the big event. Rino from “Racing On Promotions” was the man behind the event and what an event he put on. One lucky person had the chance to win a flat screen TV donated by Rino himself. Other prizes on offer from sponsors included a “go pro” camera and $500 for speed flow fittings. The day was a great success even though taking photos was hard with such a crowd. Rino defiantly put Adelaide back on the map for drag racing, with ANDRA talking about putting Adelaide back into next years schedule. We sure hope so!
Enjoy the photos…..that i managed to get
Kuitpo Forest Rally 2011
So the last round of the SARC was this past weekend in Kuitpo Forest and was probably one of the best rallys I have been to. This years rally saw 23 cars enter and compete over 6 stages. Day one consisted of recon of all stages as well as a special stage which was held at Lanic Parks circuit track. the weather was poor to average which made for a crap day for us media folk but an awesome display for spectators and drivers. The next morning was the big event where drivers competed over 3 stages (Bells Gully, Knott hill, and Christmas hill) which were repeated 3 times. There were many water splashes around as well as a few road crossings which saw some vehicles get air as well as some sustaining minor damage from the impact. One car even lost the entire exhaust system. All results from the event can be found here http://www.kuitporally.com/results.html. Over all the rally was a lot of fun and i recommend it to anyone wanting to check out the sport.
Enjoy the photos!
